Srinagar: Authorities on Wednesday conducted a traffic and anti-encroachment drive along Residency Road and MA Road in Srinagar to remove unauthorized encroachments, clear wrong parking and identify congestion points contributing to traffic bottlenecks.

The operation was carried out in the city centre amid efforts to improve traffic movement and address recurring congestion on key commercial roads.

Officials said the drive focused on removing encroachments affecting pedestrian and vehicular movement while simultaneously examining choke points and factors responsible for traffic congestion.

The exercise assumes significance as Residency Road and MA Road remain among Srinagar’s busiest commercial stretches and frequently witness traffic jams, unauthorized parking and roadside obstructions.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SP East), SDPO Kothibagh and concerned Station House Officers supervised the operation and monitored enforcement measures on the ground.

Officials said vehicles parked in violation of regulations and encroachments obstructing smooth movement were identified during the drive.

The operation witnessed enforcement activity at multiple locations along the two roads, with authorities assessing areas requiring sustained intervention.

Officials indicated that the drive would continue in the coming days as part of broader efforts to streamline traffic movement and reduce congestion in Srinagar’s commercial hub.

The administration and police have increasingly relied on enforcement drives to address parking violations and encroachment-related disruptions affecting public movement. [KNT]
