Jammu Rural Police bust organised gambling racket at Sidhra hotel

Jammu: Jammu Rural Police, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nagrota, busted an organised gambling racket operating from Sunshine Hotel in the Sidhra area of Jammu, officials said on Wednesday.

Acting on specific and reliable information, a police team led by PSI Neeraj Parihar, ICPP Sidhra, conducted a raid at Room No. 105 of Sunshine Hotel, where illegal gambling activities were being carried out for monetary gains.

During the raid, six persons along with one hotel worker were found actively indulging in gambling. The accused were identified as Zulfkar Rashid Malik, son of Abdul Rashid Malik, resident of Gujjar Nagar Jammu; Manzoor Ahmed, son of Ghulam Nabi, resident of Bijbehara in Anantnag district; Bilal Ahmed, son of Ghulam Rasool, resident of Shallabagh Ganderbal and presently staying at Lower Thather Bantalab Jammu; Abdul Majeed Lone, son of Ghulam Mohi ud Din, resident of Sogam Kupwara; and Ashiq Hussain Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, resident of Parimpora Qamarwari Srinagar.

The hotel worker facilitating the gambling activity was identified as Naseer Ahmed, son of Ghulam Ramat Sofi, resident of Sherpora Baramulla.

Police said stake money amounting to Rs 34,950 along with playing cards, chips and other gambling related articles were recovered from the spot and seized in accordance with law.

Preliminary enquiry revealed that the accused persons, in connivance with the hotel worker, were deliberately facilitating organised gambling activities with the common intention of making wrongful gain, thereby committing petty organised crime.

Police said the acts of the accused prima facie constitute offences punishable under Section 112(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Accordingly, FIR No. 21 of 2026 under Section 112(2) BNS has been registered at Police Station Nagrota. All accused persons have been arrested and further investigation is underway. [KNT]
