Govt orders enquiry into GMC Udhampur video incident

Udhampur: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered a formal enquiry into the circumstances and sequence of events that led to the circulation of certain videos on social media platforms in connection with Government Medical College Udhampur.

According to Government Order No. 67 JK (HME) of 2026, dated Jan 28, sanction has been accorded to the appointment of Prof Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal, Government Medical College Jammu, as Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed probe into the incident reported at Government Medical College Udhampur on Jan 27.

The enquiry will examine the circumstances and sequence of events as well as the administrative, security and institutional aspects related to the incident, which resulted in the circulation of videos on social media platforms.

The order, issued by the Health and Medical Education Department, states that the Inquiry Officer has been directed to submit a reasoned and comprehensive report within 15 days from the date of issuance of the order.

The directive has been issued by order of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir and has been signed by Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, IAS, Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education Department. 

Copies of the order have been forwarded to senior officials including the offices of the Chief Minister, Lieutenant Governor, Ministry of Home Affairs, and concerned principals for information and necessary action.

The government action follows the emergence of videos related to the incident at GMC Udhampur, which triggered official scrutiny and prompted the initiation of a time bound enquiry. [KNT]
