Four Accused Chargesheeted in Srinagar for Fake Property Deal Worth Rs 1.66 Crore

Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir on Monday filed a charge sheet before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar against four accused persons involved in an alleged property fraud amounting to Rs 1.66 crore.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Wahid Khan son of Abdul Qayoom Khan of Khan Mohalla Baghat e Barzulla Srinagar, Mohammad Yousuf Malik son of Late Mohammad Ramzan Malik of Nai Sarak Habba Kadal Srinagar at present Natipora Srinagar, Mohammad Ashraf Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir of Hakhripora Pulwama, and Mohammad Maqbool Shah son of Late Shamas ud din Shah of Peerbagh Srinagar. The case followed a complaint filed by individuals who were seeking to purchase a house along with sufficient land in Srinagar.

According to the investigation, the complainants were approached by the accused posing as property dealers. They allegedly showcased a double storey house along with one kanal and five marlas of land at Chinar Colony Baghat i Barzulla, claimed to be owned by Mst Koshaliya widow of Jawahar Lal Rafiz. Crime Branch Kashmir stated that the accused prepared forged documents and executed a false agreement to sell migrant property, persuading the complainants to pay an initial sum of Rs 1.16 crore.

The investigation further revealed that the accused later inflated the sale price and extracted an additional Rs 50 lakh. Despite receiving a total of Rs 1.66 crore, the accused neither handed over possession of the property nor refunded the money. Crime Branch Kashmir said the four accused were found to have entered into a criminal conspiracy and executed fraudulent documents to misappropriate the complainants’ hard earned money.

A charge sheet in FIR No 14 of 2018 under Sections 420, 468, 471 read with 120 B of the RPC has been submitted for judicial determination. During proceedings, the Court remanded two accused, Mohammad Yousuf Malik and Mohammad Maqbool Shah, to judicial lock up. ​[KNT]
