Documentary on Drug Menace in Kashmir Earns Jury Recognition at KWFF

Srinagar: The documentary “Aatish-e-Tilism” has earned the prestigious “Jury Mention” award at the fifth annual Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF), following a powerful and emotional screening before a packed audience.

The 16-minute film explores Kashmir’s escalating drug addiction crisis, portraying the anguish of affected families and the deep scars left on the region’s youth. Its realistic depiction struck a chord with viewers, many of whom have directly witnessed the growing menace. The screening drew strong emotional reactions from locals and dignitaries alike, who lauded the film’s unflinching honesty and human-centered storytelling.

The jury commended “Aatish-e-Tilism” for balancing sensitivity with journalistic integrity, calling it an important social document that highlights one of Kashmir’s gravest challenges.

The film also sheds light on the collaborative efforts of NGOs such as Chotay Taray and the local administration in helping addicts rebuild their lives through rehabilitation and awareness programs.

Jointly directed by journalist-filmmaker Anil Kumar and Turkish filmmaker Ozge Uyar, “Aatish-e-Tilism” amplifies the voices of survivors and activists, delivering a clear and urgent message: to reject drugs and seek timely help for recovery.
