Awareness Drive on Shelling Safety and Mental Health Held at GGHS Uri

Uri: A comprehensive awareness drive was conducted at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Uri, focusing on unexploded ordnance (UXO) safety and mental health amid recurring cross-border shelling.

Organised by SACPPE and led by its President Umar Bhat, the programme aimed to educate students and locals on identifying, avoiding, and reporting explosive remnants.

Dr. Jagmeet Singh from IMHANS Srinagar sensitised participants on mental health impacts of conflict exposure.

Rameez Raja and Umar Gul (SACPPE) stressed the importance of shell recognition and community vigilance.

ZEO Uri Javed Gani Banday, SHO Uri Mudasir Ahmad highlighted the urgency of sustained awareness efforts in border areas while as Principal Manzoor Ahmad Chalkoo shared insights on ensuring children’s safety.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from police officials, SDRF, and Civil Defence.

IEC materials were distributed, reinforcing a strong message – community awareness, mental resilience, and inter-agency coordination are vital for safeguarding vulnerable populations.(GNS)
