SRINAGAR: The Srinagar city continues to witness frequent several hours long traffic jams while authorities seem have failed to regulate the vehicular flow.
The commuters continue to witness nightmares and they say there is no end to the jams that they go through to reach their destinations daily. As per their claims, jams at Narbal, Shalteng, Tengpora are mainly because of convey movement.
“The jams have become part of our life and on daily basis we loose at least two hours in thes traffic jams. Be it at Tengpora or at Batamaloo, I see no deployment of traffic policemen in morning hours.” said Reyaz who has business in Lal Chowk.
Another commuter Muhammad Mozim, a student, complained that traffic mess becomes a “night mare” as everyday their school bus get stuck for long hours in the jams. “As the traffic police remains absent in morning, commuters, locals and drivers are often seen regulating traffic on the highway as traffic police remains missing.” he added.
Commuters have expressed resentment against traffic jams on Soura-Mallabagh-Hazratbal road during peak morning and evening hours. “The road is vital link between Soura and Hazratbal and is awaiting widening for the past several years. The road is used by doctors, students and employees as it leads to SKIMS, Kashmir University and NIT. We urge the SSP Traffic to look into the matter,” she said.
Another girl student Hazifa who lives in Magam told PTK that she spends 2 hours in traffic jam daily. “For me, spending four hours in traffic jams on daily basis has become normal. In morning, I get stucked in traffic at my hometown and when I reach city, there happens same and similar happens in evening.”
The local residents of Natipora said in absence of traffic cops, there are frequent traffic jams at Natipora-Chanapora junction. “As a result time of students, office goers and businessmen gets wasted,” they said. (PTK)
