Anantnag, Aug 30, : The death of a young man from Kulgam at Mid City private hospital in Anantnag has triggered a protest by his family members, who have alleged medical negligence and demanded a thorough probe into the circumstances surrounding his death. The family members staged a protest at the hospital premises following the death, alleging lapses in treatment and seeking accountability. The case has also brought renewed scrutiny on the functioning of private hospitals and nursing homes in Anantnag, particularly over concerns that complicated surgical procedures may be undertaken at facilities without adequately equipped Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and critical-care backup.Chief Medical Officer Anantnag, Dr Khalid Parvaiz, confirmed to the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the operation theatre of the concerned private hospital had been sealed.“We have sealed the OT of the said private hospital,” the CMO said.Asked about concerns regarding complicated surgeries being performed at private facilities without adequate ICU support, Dr Parvaiz said the health department was taking steps to strengthen monitoring.“We are working on it. We will issue a circular to all private hospitals in Anantnag directing them to submit daily data of surgeries performed at their facilities, so that we can identify complicated procedures and monitor them,” he said. The proposed daily reporting mechanism is intended to help the health authorities identify facilities undertaking complex procedures and assess whether they have adequate infrastructure and critical-care arrangements to deal with possible post-operative complications. The development has also raised broader questions over the regulatory oversight of private healthcare facilities in the district, including the availability of functional ICUs, emergency support and other critical-care infrastructure for patients undergoing high-risk procedures.
