Says CM Omar assured help

Srinagar: Shams-ud-Din Malik, the father of the detained Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Doda, Mehraj Malik, booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA), on Thursday said he wants his son to be released at the earliest and apologised for the language his son has used.

Shams-ud-Din, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), met Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and sought his intervention to release his son.

Known for his firebrand statements, MLA Malik was booked under the PSA on Monday.

His father, speaking to reporters here, apologised for the language his legislator son has used but said the PSA should be revoked, and his son must be released at the earliest.

Din said the Chief Minister heard them and assured to extend support. “I told him clearly that I don’t want to keep running to courts. I just want my son back. I am not concerned about the PSA. When an elderly woman broke down in front of Mehraj, he lost his temper, and a man can act out when he is angry,” he said.

Shams-ud-Din said that Mehraj’s mother was in tears. Besides, he has four daughters, and they are all crying too, he added.

The MLA’s father said he will approach the AAP Member of Parliament, Sanjay Singh, and will tell him to do something. “I want my son back,” he added—(KNO)
