Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir politician Waheed Ur Rehman Para has appealed to the government and judiciary to consider the bail application of Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, citing his father’s critical health condition.
In a statement posted on social media, Para said Rashid’s father is battling for life and is on ventilator support, urging authorities to take a humanitarian view of the situation.
“As someone who has witnessed the pain of many undertrials and their families, I appeal to the government and the court to consider the bail application of MP Er Rashid,” Para said.
He added that no family should be denied the opportunity to be together during critical moments, stating that compassion must remain central to justice.
Para also linked the issue to broader concerns, saying that if due consideration is not given to an elected representative, it raises questions about the criminal justice process.
He further noted that political and ideological differences should not prevent families from meeting during distress, describing such situations as deeply personal and impactful on society.
Rashid, an elected Member of Parliament, is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in connection with a case being investigated by central agencies.
The statement comes amid ongoing legal proceedings related to his bail plea, with no immediate response from authorities. [KNT]
