Srinagar: Three cows were electrocuted to death after a high-tension power line collapsed in Tulwari area of Langate in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, triggering outrage among locals who have accused the Power Development Department of negligence.
Locals told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the incident occurred when an HT line suddenly snapped and fell in an open area where the animals were tethered, killing them instantly. The loss has left three families facing financial hardship.
The owners of the cattle were identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Gojree, Firdous Ahmad Khan and Farooq Ahmad Gojree, all inhabitants of Gojree Mohalla in Tulwari Langate.
Families alleged that despite repeated complaints regarding the unsafe condition of electric lines in the area, no preventive action was taken by the authorities. They said loose and sagging wires have become a constant threat, especially during winter when power load increases.
“We have raised this issue several times, but nothing has changed. Now our cattle are gone, and nobody is there to listen,” one of the affected families said.
Locals of the area demanded immediate compensation from the administration and called for a thorough inspection of the power infrastructure in the region to avoid further tragedies.[KNT]
