Ganderbal: A road accident occurred at Cherwan area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday, leaving a pedestrian critically injured after a collision between two vehicles.
Officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a Swift car bearing registration number PB11BQ/4689 collided with a Sumo vehicle (JK03B/3384) at Cherwan Kangan. During the collision, a pedestrian was hit and sustained serious injuries.
The injured has been identified as Waseem Ahmad, 25, son of Mohammad Iqbal Kassana, a local of Hayan Palpora. Immediately after the incident, he was rushed to Sub District Hospital Kangan for emergency treatment.
Due to the critical nature of his injuries, doctors at SDH Kangan referred him to SKIMS Soura for advanced medical care. Hospital sources said his condition remains serious and he is undergoing treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after the accident and shifted the vehicles from the road to ensure smooth traffic movement. A case has been registered and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the exact cause of the collision.
Locals of the area said that traffic congestion and high speed of vehicles often pose risks for pedestrians in the Cherwan Kangan stretch, particularly during peak hours. They urged authorities to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents in future. [KNT]
