Jammu: Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Wednesday demanded an unconditional apology from Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for allegedly using derogatory language against BJP members inside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.

Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly complex, Sharma accused the Chief Minister of bringing disrepute to the sanctity of the House. He said that the language used against BJP legislators was unacceptable and unbecoming of a leader holding a constitutional position.

The BJP leader also raised objections over the functioning of the Speaker, alleging that the House was being run at the directions of the ruling party. He questioned the neutrality of the Chair and remarked that under the present circumstances, opposition members did not feel comfortable continuing in the Assembly.

Referring to the past incident involving the death of NC worker Syed Muhammad Yousuf, Sharma said it reflected the political culture of the National Conference. He alleged that the party had a history of internal controversies and cited the episode while criticizing its leadership.

In a sharp remark aimed at the Abdullah family, Sharma claimed that those born in the family of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah appear to get a “certificate” to misbehave, intensifying the political exchange between the ruling party and the opposition. .[KNT]
