Srinagar: Founder of the Art of Living Foundation, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, met Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr. Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq at his residence in Srinagar, where the two discussed peace, compassion, and inter-faith harmony.
During the cordial meeting, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who is visiting the Valley after seven years, expressed happiness at returning to Kashmir and lauded its rich spiritual and cultural heritage as a symbol of coexistence and harmony.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq welcomed the visiting spiritual leader and reiterated that the institution of the Mirwaiz remains deeply committed to peace and dialogue as the most humane and effective means of addressing issues and resolving differences. Both leaders agreed that injustice and disempowerment often fuel radicalisation, which poses a serious threat to peace and stability.
The Mirwaiz also appreciated Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s recent anti-drug awareness initiatives in the Valley and emphasised that such efforts are vital to safeguarding the younger generation. Referring to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s upcoming visit to Central Jail Srinagar, Mirwaiz urged that a compassionate and humane approach should guide efforts toward the release of political prisoners and detained youth, calling on the leader to play a constructive role in this regard.
Both leaders underscored the need for sustained dialogue, empathy, and mutual understanding as essential pillars to promote peace, dignity, and human values in society. [KNT]
