Shopian: In a decisive action against repeat offenders, Shopian Police have detained a notorious thief and molester under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and lodged him in Udhampur Jail.
The accused has been identified as Waseem Ahmad Wani, son of Abdul Aziz Wani, a resident of Ganowpora in Shopian. Officials said his detention followed the issuance of formal orders by the competent authority after a detailed dossier was prepared.
Police Station Shopian, working in close coordination with Police Post Keegam and under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Shopian, Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir (JKPS), played a key role in compiling the case. According to police, Wani is a habitual offender with a criminal record that includes eight FIRs registered in different police stations. His activities range from theft and house trespass to offences against women, creating what police described as a serious threat to peace and public safety.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS), said the action demonstrates the department’s resolve to protect community safety. “Shopian Police is committed to safeguarding the dignity of citizens and maintaining public order. We will continue to take firm and lawful action against habitual offenders who pose a threat to stability,” he said.
Police added that such measures are part of a wider strategy to curb rising criminal activities and ensure that repeat offenders do not escape accountability. [KNT]
