Shopian: Shopian Police have taken strict cognizance of a stunt biking incident reported from the Pehlipoora area and registered an FIR against the rider for endangering public safety.

Police said FIR No. 263/2025 has been registered under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The motorcycle involved in the incident has been seized, and further investigation is underway.

The accused has been identified as Sahil Farooq Sheikh, son of Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Pehlipoora, Shopian. Police said the youth was found performing dangerous stunts on a public road, posing a serious threat to his own life and to other road users.

Officials said such acts are unlawful and will be dealt with strictly under relevant provisions of law. Police warned that public roads are meant for safe commuting and not for performing stunts, which can lead to fatal accidents.

Shopian Police urged citizens, particularly the youth, to refrain from stunt biking, rash driving and other traffic violations. Parents have also been requested to counsel their children and guide them towards responsible driving behaviour.

Police said strict action will continue against violators as part of efforts to ensure road safety and disciplined traffic movement across the district. [KNT]
