SRINAGAR : Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on Sholipora-Waterhail road in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Tuesday after villagers blocked the road to protest water shortage.

Scores of men and women continued their protest on the second consecutive day today to protest acute water shortage at Bukhari Colony in Sholipora, few km from district headquarters.

“A water supply scheme for the habitation was announced last year but unfortunately work is yet to start on it. Around 70 pipes are rusting in the area and these are not being installed,” a protester said.

The protesters blocked Nasrullahpora-Arizal road near Jamia Masjid Sholipora and also severed water supply to major part of the Srinagar city by removing gate valve of the Sukhnag Master Plan.

Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded after the protesters blocked the road, reports said.
