Srinagar, April 2 : The Self Help Groups can now do business at the busy Srinagar International Airport.
The authorities at the Srinagar Airport are offering the shops to the SHGs for selling their products.
Director Srinagar Airport Kuldeep Singh said the SHGs can sell food items or handicrafts or any other product to the passengers at the airport
“We get more than 13000 passengers every day. All of these passengers will be potential customers of the SHG,” he said.
He said this would automatically advertise the SHG and its products.
“If the product of the SHG is good, the customers will remember it and contact the SHG for sourcing the product even after the sale period of 15 days is over. Therefore this is also a golden opportunity for advertising of SHG products.”
The Self Help Groups are groups of 10-20 people in a locality formed for any social or economic purpose. Most of the SHGs are formed for the purpose of better financial security among its members.
The Director said this is a great opportunity for the SHGs registered with Deputy Commissioner, Budgam for sale of their food items or handicrafts or any other product to the passengers at the airport
The Airport authorities would submit the collected applications of SHGs to the Deputy Commissioner, Budgam for his approval and recommendation.
He said the shops would be available to these groups at a nominal rats.
“The normal rental for the sale outlets and shops at our airport is about Rs 5 Lakh per month. But we are offering these shops to the Groups at a nominal rent of Rs 6,133 only for a period of 15 days. This amount includes GST and all other taxes,” he said.
The location of these shops is in the security hold area of the airport.
The Director said he was sure that many SHGS will use this opportunity for the sale of their products at the airport.
“This is our small contribution for the economic development and progress of our neighborhood,” he said. (Agencies)
