Schoolgirl Dies, Four Others Injured in Rainawari Road Accident

Srinagar: A road accident in the Jogi Lanker area of Rainawari on Wednesday claimed the life of a 12-year-old schoolgirl and left four others injured. The incident occurred when an eco vehicle lost control and rammed into pedestrians, causing widespread panic in the densely populated area.

Police officials identified the vehicle involved in the accident as an eco van bearing registration number DLCAS 1744. The van was being driven by a local of Kalwal Mohalla Rainawari. 

Preliminary investigation suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a narrow lane, leading to the mishap.

The deceased was identified as a 12-year-old schoolgirl from Gurpora locality. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after being shifted to hospital. 

Hospital sources confirmed that all four injured persons were adults. Two of them were shifted to SMHS Hospital, while one critically injured victim was referred to SKIMS Soura. Another injured individual is currently under treatment at JLNM Hospital in Rainawari. Doctors described the condition of the SKIMS patient as critical and said that intensive care was being provided.

Police have confirmed that the driver has been taken into custody, and a case has been registered. Authorities have assured a thorough probe into the accident. “The circumstances that led to the mishap are being investigated, and necessary legal action will follow,” a police officer said. [KNT]
