Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday criticised the government after reports emerged that National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi was denied permission to hold a meeting at the Town Hall in Anantnag despite being invited by a citizen council.
In a post on X, Mehbooba said it was “unfortunate” that a sitting parliamentarian from the ruling party invited by citizen council, was reportedly denied permission by his own government to hold a meeting at the Town Hall in Anantnag.
“At a time when Dr. Farooq Sahib and Omar Sahib are rightly voicing concern over the arrest of MLA Mehraj Malik, such restrictions on their own party MP raise serious questions,” Mehbooba wrote.
She added that the incident “exposes a disturbing level of double standards and political hypocrisy,” accusing the authorities of shrinking democratic space in Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
