Kargil: Kargil Police rescued an injured pregnant ibex with a fractured leg from a remote border area and handed it over to the Wildlife Department for immediate treatment, officials said on Monday.

According to officials, Police Post Darchiks, led by Sub-Inspector Mohammad Jaffar, acted swiftly after receiving information from local residents regarding the injured wild animal.

A police team reached the remote area and safely rescued the pregnant ibex, which was found suffering from a fractured leg.

Following the rescue, the animal was shifted and formally handed over to the Wildlife Department for medical attention and further care.

Officials said timely intervention helped prevent further distress to the animal and ensured immediate treatment.

The Himalayan ibex, found in high-altitude regions of Ladakh and adjoining areas, remains an important part of the fragile mountain ecosystem and often requires protection against injuries and habitat-related threats. [KNT]
