Srinagar, Aug 28 : Police has booked a political leader for allegedly duping a person of Rs 8.25 lakh on the pretext of providing a job as Special Police Officer (SPO) and permission for setting up tents at Pahalgam during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.In a handout to GNS, the police said that the accused has been identified as Aabid Hussain Nengroo, a political leader.According to police, Nengroo allegedly took Rs 8.25 lakh from the complainant after promising him an SPO job and permission for installation of tents at Pahalgam for the annual Amarnath Yatra.However, after taking the money, neither the job nor the permission was provided, following which the complainant approached police.Taking cognizance of the complaint, FIR No. 283/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Anantnag and investigation has been taken up.Police said further investigation into the matter is going on.(GNS)
