Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday announced a cash award of ₹2 crore for the Jammu and Kashmir Ranji Trophy team in recognition of their historic title triumph against Karnataka.
In a message shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister congratulated the players and support staff, lauding their commanding performance on Karnataka’s home turf. He described the victory as a defining chapter in the cricketing journey of Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the achievement had brought immense pride to the Union Territory.
Abdullah said the milestone win has energised the sporting landscape of J&K and inspired young aspirants across districts to pursue excellence in competitive sports. He termed the Ranji Trophy title as evidence of the region’s steady ascent in the national cricket arena.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure and athlete support, the Chief Minister also announced that members of the victorious squad would be eligible for government jobs under the newly notified policy for outstanding sportspersons.
