‘Absconders identified, efforts underway to arrest them’

Kupwara, May 23 : Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday claimed to have busted a Narco-module and recovered eight kilograms of Heroin worth Rs 50 Crore from a militant associate in Keran sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A police spokesman in a statement said that based on a specific information, Kupwara Police have busted a Pakistan sponsored Narco-militant module and arrested one militant associate.

The spokesman identified him as Mujasir Ahmad Lone, son of Muzaffer Ahmad Lone of Karen bala.

He said that incriminating material Narcotic substance Heroin eight kgs worth Rs 50 Crore market value were recovered from his possession.

The other absconded involved persons have been identified and efforts are being taken to arrest them, the police spokesman said

He said that the module was in close connection with Pakistan based handlers and were involved in drug trade and assisting financially to active militants of the Valley.

The recoveries also exposed the inter connection between drug dealers and militants, the spokesman said in the statement. The statement said that the module was working for militants to strengthen their activities in the valley and were misguiding and motivating the local youth of the Valley to join militant ranks.

A case under relevant sections of Law has been registered at Police Station Kralpora and investigation has been taken up, it said.

The spokesman further said that Kupwara Police appealed the people of the district to come forward with the information regarding drug peddlers, smugglers so that the curative steps can be taken against them—(KNO)
