Srinagar: Mirwaiz and chairman of Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema(MMU) Molvi Umar Farooq condemned the killing of five Muslim youth in police firing during the survey of Sambhal Jama Masjid in Uttar Pradesh. Mirwaiz said the killing of these youth in discriminatory police action is deeply distressing and sad. He said that while a government has to safeguard the life and property of all, including its minorities, but in the present time the life of Muslims in some parts of India is cheap and dispensable and game for electoral rewards.
To rake up issues of centuries-old mosques and question their status has become a pattern to provoke and generate a desired reaction to the advantage of the ruling class, in which Muslims are targeted and hatred against them bred.
The incident in Sambhal is part of this trend in which innocent lives were lost.
Mirwaiz said this bigoted and divisive mindset is dangerous for the people of India and should be stopped. He hoped that the matter would be fairly investigated and the guilty punished. [KNT]
