Budgam, Oct 26, KNT: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday addressed a workers’ meeting in Budgam, where she extended her full support to party candidate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi and urged people to rally behind him for what she called a “responsible and people-centric leadership.”

During her address, Mehbooba Mufti launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC) leadership, alleging that the party’s rule brought suffering to ordinary people. She accused the NC government led by Omar Abdullah of jailing youth and failing to protect the interests of the common man.

“During Omar Abdullah’s tenure, thousands of our youth were imprisoned and innocent people faced immense hardships,” Mehbooba said, adding that those who once claimed to represent the people have now distanced themselves from their promises.

Referring to Omar Abdullah’s previous electoral victory in Budgam, Mehbooba said that the NC leader had won with a huge margin and made lofty commitments to the people, including a pledge to stand by the constituency. “But today, he has betrayed the people of Budgam by abandoning them and ignoring their concerns,” she remarked, drawing applause from the gathering.

The PDP President further said that Budgam, which holds significant political importance, has been neglected by those who used it merely as a stepping stone to power. She appealed to the locals to unite under the PDP banner and support Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, whom she described as “a sincere and dedicated representative who understands the pain and aspirations of the people.”

Mehbooba reiterated that the PDP remains committed to restoring the dignity and rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that real change can come only through unity and accountability in leadership. [KNT]
