Srinagar: Locals from Shutrashahi, located behind the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, have appealed to the Traffic Department to take strict action against vehicles that remain parked along the road throughout the day, alleging that the practice has turned the area into a constant traffic bottleneck.
The inhabitants told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that vehicles are being parked haphazardly from Shutrashahi up to the site of the erstwhile Neelum Cinema, making it nearly impossible for ambulances or fire tenders to pass. They said the road, which serves as an important link route, remains blocked for most hours of the day due to the unchecked roadside parking.
“The road has practically been turned into a parking lot. Emergency vehicles often get stuck, and even pedestrians find it hard to move. This situation has persisted for months without any visible action from the authorities,” said one local resident.
Locals urged the Traffic Police to regularly deploy cranes to lift vehicles parked illegally and to install visible ‘No Parking’ boards to discourage violations. They also demanded stricter enforcement measures to ensure that the road remains open for emergency and daily movement. [KNT]
