Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday attended the closing ceremony of Jashn-e-Dal, a three-day water sports event organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police at the iconic Dal Lake in Srinagar.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor lauded the Jammu and Kashmir Police for its contribution to nation-building, maintaining public order, upholding the rule of law, and fighting terrorism.

“J&K Police’s proactive engagement with communities and empowerment of youth is laudable. It has been working with integrity and dedication to safeguard the nation’s internal security,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Commending the annual sporting initiative, Sinha said the event not only promotes athletic excellence but also strengthens unity and harmony among the youth. “J&K Police is serving as a guardian for the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. Through events like Jashn-e-Dal, Pedal for Peace, marathons, football and cricket tournaments, the Police is creating opportunities, mentorship, and resources for the younger generation. These are more than just sporting activities—they represent a new and positive chapter for our youth,” he remarked.

Calling on athletes to become role models, Sinha urged the young participants to stay away from drugs and channel their energy into productive pursuits. “Sports is a unifying force. I want our youth to act as powerful agents of change by leveraging their discipline, perseverance, and creativity,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the importance of youth-led initiatives in nation-building, community service, and environmental protection. Highlighting recent gains in preserving lakes and rivers, he reminded the youth of their responsibility towards natural resources. “Ponds, rivers, and lakes are integral to our existence. The positive changes witnessed in recent years are a testament to public participation,” he noted.

He further called upon the youth to actively join the ‘Sewa Parv’ campaign, beginning September 17, through cleanliness drives, tree plantation programs, and initiatives to support weaker sections of society, in collaboration with J&K Police.

At the ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor took the ceremonial salute at an impressive pedal pass and felicitated the winners of Jashn-e-Dal. The event saw participation from nearly 750 athletes competing across various water sports disciplines.

DGP Nalin Prabhat, Special DG Coordination S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP Armed Anand Jain, senior police and civil officials, members of water sports associations, and prominent sports personalities were present at the closing ceremony, which drew a large crowd of enthusiastic youth.(KINS)
