Srinagar: The controversy surrounding the clash of Junior Resident (JR) examination dates between Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri and GMC Kathua has been resolved after sustained concerns raised by medical aspirants and intervention by the All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA).

As per an official notice issued by GMC Rajouri on Friday, the Junior Resident examination earlier scheduled for February 3 has now been postponed to February 5, 2026. The examination will be held at 12 noon at the Mehra Campus of GMC Rajouri.

The decision comes a day after candidates highlighted that the JR examinations of GMC Rajouri and GMC Kathua were scheduled on the same date, creating confusion and hardship for aspirants who had applied at both institutions. The issue was taken up by AIMSA, which formally brought the matter to the notice of the authorities, seeking immediate rectification.

All India Medical Students Associaion Vice President Dr Muhammad Moomin Khan had expressed concern over the lack of coordination between medical institutions, stating that overlapping examination schedules could deprive eligible candidates of fair opportunities. AIMSA had termed the clash avoidable and urged the administration to intervene in the interest of students.

Following the revised schedule, candidates and student bodies have welcomed the move, calling it a relief and a positive response to genuine grievances. They, however, reiterated the need for better coordination among government medical colleges to prevent similar situations in the future.

The revised notification has been circulated to all concerned departments and candidates have been advised to take note of the updated examination date and time. [KNT]
