New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association National Convenor Nasir Khuehami met Srinagar Member of Parliament Aga Ruhullah Mehdi in New Delhi and raised several pressing issues affecting students from Jammu and Kashmir studying outside the Union Territory.
During the meeting, Khuehami briefed the MP about the ongoing hostel crisis at Jamia Millia Islamia, where a number of students from Jammu and Kashmir are facing accommodation-related difficulties. He said the shortage of hostel facilities has created serious problems for students, particularly those from economically weaker backgrounds, forcing many to seek costly private accommodation.
The JKSA National Convenor also raised concerns regarding the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that several student groups have expressed apprehensions over its implementation and impact on access to education and employment opportunities. He sought the MP’s intervention to ensure that student interests are safeguarded and that any policy changes are made in a transparent and inclusive manner.
Khuehami further highlighted broader academic and welfare-related challenges faced by students from Jammu and Kashmir across various institutions in the country, including issues related to hostels, scholarships and equal opportunities. He urged the MP to take up these matters with the concerned ministries and authorities at the earliest.
MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, according to JKSA, assured that the concerns raised would be examined and taken up at appropriate forums. He reiterated his commitment to raising student related issues in Parliament and with the concerned authorities to seek timely redressal.
The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association said it would continue to engage with elected representatives and institutions to ensure that the voices of students from the Union Territory are effectively represented at the national level. [KNT]
