Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have reportedly approached Interpol seeking a Red Corner Notice against Qazigund-based Dr. Muzaffar, who is wanted in connection with the Red Fort blast, officials said on Thursday.

Dr. Muzaffar is the brother of Dr. Adil, one of the eight accused, including three doctors, arrested in the case related to the Red Fort car blast that left 13 people dead on Monday. Officials said his name surfaced during the interrogation of the arrested accused, seven of whom hail from Kashmir.

According to investigators, Dr. Muzaffar was part of a doctors’ group that travelled to Turkiye in 2021 along with Dr Muzammil Ganaie and Dr Umar Nabi, the man who drove the explosives-laden car that detonated near the Red Fort. The three reportedly stayed in Turkiye for 21 days.

Police efforts to trace Dr. Muzaffar revealed that he had left India for Dubai in August and is now suspected to be in Afghanistan. With his role under scrutiny, agencies have intensified the international hunt, prompting a formal request to Interpol. [KNT]
