Jammu–Srinagar highway open only for light motor vehicles

Srinagar: The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway, designated as NH 44, has been opened only for light motor vehicles on Thursday, officials said.

Authorities said traffic movement of heavy vehicles has not been permitted due to prevailing road conditions and safety concerns at vulnerable stretches. Commuters travelling in light motor vehicles have been advised to drive cautiously and follow traffic advisories.

Officials said the situation is being monitored continuously and any decision regarding movement of other categories of vehicles will be taken after assessment of road and weather conditions. [KNT]
