Handwara: In a major step towards eliminating the menace of drug trafficking and abuse, Handwara Police destroyed narcotic substances seized in connection with eight cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The operation was carried out at a designated site outside District Police Lines Handwara under strict compliance with the orders of the Additional Sessions Court, Handwara.
Officials said the seized contraband, valued at several lakh rupees, was destroyed in a scientifically controlled manner to ensure environmental safety and adherence to judicial directives. The entire process was conducted under the supervision of designated officers and in accordance with the legal and procedural norms mandated by the court.
The destruction was carried out under the aegis of the Drug Disposal Committee, chaired by the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Handwara. The committee ensured full compliance with the prescribed procedures. The operation was closely monitored by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer Handwara, the Executive Magistrate First Class Handwara, the Additional Public Prosecutor JMIC Handwara, and the Station House Officer Handwara.
Officials said the process was executed with complete transparency and scientific precision to eliminate potential environmental or health hazards. The police emphasized that the operation demonstrated their firm commitment to maintaining public safety, upholding the law, and eradicating the drug menace.
