Rajouri: Authorities on Tuesday launched an intensive operation to contain a forest fire that broke out in parts of Rajouri district, with teams working on the ground to prevent the flames from spreading further into adjoining woodland areas.
Officials said firefighting efforts were underway after the blaze was reported from a forested area, prompting a response from concerned departments and local personnel.
Reports said that personnel and local volunteers were seen attempting to control the fire and create barriers to stop its advance.
The incident comes at a time when rising temperatures, dry vegetation and prolonged dry weather conditions have increased the risk of forest fires across several hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials are assessing the extent of the affected area and monitoring the situation to ensure the fire remains confined and does not threaten nearby habitations.
Forest fires not only damage vegetation and wildlife habitats but can also adversely impact biodiversity and environmental stability in ecologically sensitive regions.
Authorities urged residents to avoid activities that could trigger fires in forest areas and called for public cooperation in reporting any fresh incidents promptly. [KNT]
