Srinagar: The Srinagar Traffic Police has issued a stern warning to auto rickshaw operators, directing them to install fare meters by December 10 or face legal action.Notably, this move comes as part of an intensified campaign against traffic violations across the Kashmir Valley.A senior traffic police officer told that while they could begin enforcement immediately, the authorities have provided a 10-day grace period, considering the livelihoods of auto rickshaw operators.“We can even start taking action now. But it is a matter of their livelihood, so we have given 10 days’ time for auto rickshaws to install fare meters,” the officer stated. The fresh drive targets commercial vehicles in Srinagar, with the authorities stating that failure to comply with the directions will result in strict legal action.Notably, the initiative aligns with a broader crackdown on traffic violations that has already seen thousands of vehicles seized across the valley—(KNO)
