Jammu, Aug 31, : A retired Army soldier was killed after his throat was slit by a banned Chinese kite string while he was travelling on a two-wheeler through the Bishnah area of Jammu Ring Road, officials said. The deceased was identified as Naib Subedar (Retd) Lakhvinder Singh, who sustained critical injuries after coming into contact with the kite string late Sunday.Singh was returning to his home in R S Pura after completing his work at an industrial unit in Bari Brahmana, where he was employed as a private security guard. He was rushed to a hospital following the incident but succumbed to his injuries.According to reports, the incident occurred when the kite string became entangled around his throat while he was riding through the Bishnah area. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. The death has once again raised concerns over the continued availability and use of Chinese kite string, also known as Chinese Manja or ‘Chinese Gattu’, despite a ban on its sale and use.Authorities have taken action against traders found dealing in the banned material in the past, but the fatal incident has renewed questions over how the string continues to reach the market and is used in public spaces.
