Doda: Doda Police said it apprehended two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations and recovered a heroin-like substance and thousands of banned tablets, registering two cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The recoveries were made during routine checking operations in different parts of Doda town, reflecting continued enforcement efforts against drug trafficking in the district.
In the first case, a police party from Police Station Doda intercepted an individual near Ganpat Chowk during routine checking. The accused was identified as Muzzamil Ahmed, son of Nazir Ahmed, a resident of Udhyanpur in Doda.
During search, approximately 5.23 grams of a heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. Police said a case under FIR No. 76/2026 has been registered at Police Station Doda under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway.
In a separate operation, another police team from Police Station Doda conducted naka checking near a petrol pump and intercepted one individual identified as Nitan Kumar, son of Sat Paul, a resident of Kandoth in Thathri tehsil of Doda district.
During checking, police recovered 60 boxes of banned Buprenorphine and Naloxone tablets, marketed as VERNOR-N, from his possession. Each box contained 100 tablets, taking the total to 6,000 tablets.
Police said a case under FIR No. 77/2026 has been registered at Police Station Doda under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation has been taken up.
Both accused persons have been taken into custody, police said. [KNT]
