Budgam: A cow died on the spot in Karipora village of Budgam, after it came into contact with a live electric wire, sparking anger and grief among villagers.
The family that owned the cow alleged negligence on the part of the Power Development Department (PDD), claiming that the wire had developed an earth connection. “When my mother went to the spot, the cow received an electric shock and died instantly,” the owner told Kashmir News Trust. He demanded compensation for the loss, saying the family belongs to an economically weaker section and the cow was a major support to their livelihood.
Officials from the PDD reached the area soon after the incident and inspected the spot.
Locals urged the department to investigate the matter thoroughly and undertake necessary repair work to prevent such incidents in the future. They said timely action was vital to ensure public safety and avoid further loss. [KNT]
