Kargil : With the reopening of the Zojila pass, the authorities at Kargil in the Union Territory of Ladakh have furnished a fool-roof plan to ensure no one enters the district without getting tested and that proper COVID-19 behavior is maintained.

Addressing the reporters on the sidelines of COVID-19 related meeting Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) Kargil, Feroz Khan, said that most of the active cases in Kargil are laborers and very few locals, and the Zojila pass is scheduled to reopen for public transport for which arrangements will be ensured including the full proof screening point so that people don’t enter district headquarters without getting tested.

He said that non-locals must have a negative RTPCR test and the incoming locals will have to undergo testing which is mandatory and only then they will be allowed to proceed further besides remaining in isolation until the test result.

About the COVID-19 infrastructure in the district, the CEC said that there is no dearth of oxygen. “Cylinders are available. Oxygen plant is functional and one more oxygen plant will be made functional in the next couple of days also 250 beds will be prepared at COVID-19 dedicated hospitals,” he said.

COVID-19 care centers will be prepared in which some hotels will also be used in case of requirement, Khan said.

The CEC said that Kargil is the only district across India where educational institutions are still functional but given the situation, students can act as potent carriers and it has been decided to order the closure as a preventive measure for a fortnight or a month to contain the spread in coming days.

A special medical team of Kargil will be deployed in Baltal exclusively to check the RTPCR of non-local laborers for their convenience while those stranded for the past many days will undergo tests here, the CEC said.

He informed that those who have received their first dose of the vaccine will have to get the 2nd jab well on time here while those having received both the jabs must have their certificate with them.

He said that around 73 mini-load carriers have passed Zojila pass towards Sonamarg to transport essential commodities in a sufficient amount besides a proper traffic movement notification will be misused after April 25 by traffic police separately.

He appealed to the people and religious leaders, in particular, to maintain the proper COVID-19 behavior and ensure the virus is kept away from the district(KNO)
