Srinagar: Chief Minister on Saturday congratulated Rajouri-based boxer Mohammad Yasir for winning a gold medal at Asian U-15 Boxing Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
In a message, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, as per GNS, said the young athlete’s achievement had brought pride to Jammu and Kashmir and wished him continued success in his sporting career. The Chief Minister also expressed hope that Yasir’s accomplishment would inspire aspiring sportspersons across the region.
Pertinent to mention here that Yasir secured the gold medal in the 58-kg category after an impressive run in the continental championship organised under the aegis of Asian Boxing.
Training at the Khelo India Boxing Centre in Rajouri, the young pugilist had advanced to the final after registering a commanding 5-0 victory over Iran’s Seyyedariyamohammad Mousa in the semi-final bout.
Yasir has earlier performed strongly in sub-junior national-level events and is regarded as one of the emerging boxing talents from the Union Territory.
The Asian U-15 and U-17 Boxing Championships in Tashkent featured participation from several leading boxing nations from across the continent, making the gold medal a notable international achievement in the young boxer’s career. (GNS)
