Srinagar, Sep 04 : The protest by MBBS and BDS intern doctors demanding an enhancement in their monthly stipend entered its fifth consecutive day on Friday, with the protesting interns scheduled to meet Health Minister Sakina Itoo.According to details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a delegation of interns met Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, this morning to discuss the issue and convey their concerns.Meanwhile, sources said the delegation is also scheduled to meet Health Minister Sakina Itoo at the Chief Minister’s Rabitq Office today afternoon. The interns said they are hopeful that the meeting will lead to a concrete decision on their long-pending demand.“We will decided our future course of action after meeting the Health Minister. We will continue our strike if concrete steps are not taken,” they said. The protesting interns are seeking an increase in their existing monthly stipend from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000, arguing that the present amount does not adequately reflect the workload, responsibilities and rising cost of living faced by medical interns during their compulsory internship. The protesting doctors have also warned of intensifying their agitation if their demands are not met—(KNO)
