SRINAGAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that BJP’s alliance with PDP in Jammu and Kashmir was its “mahamilavat”.

In an interview with Aaj Tak PM Modi said “We went with the PDP because Mufti Saab [Mufti Mohammad Syed] was there, but it was like mixing oil and water. The PDP-BJP alliance was our mahamilavat. We only did it because that was the people’s mandate”.

Modi once again hit out at the Mufti family and Abdullah family in a veiled reference to the “few families in Kashmir” that are saying different things in Kashmir and Delhi.

Modi said, “There are a few families in Kashmir who speak one language in Kashmir and another in Delhi. These families are speaking two languages. We must expose this duality”.

He added the people’s verdict in J&K was such that there was no alternative and the BJP had to tie up with PDP to form the government. “Only one formula can work in J&K, and that is Vajpayee’s ‘Insaniyat-Kashmiriyat-Jammuriyat’,” he said. Modi also said he was disappointed with TMC chief and West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “Mei hairan hun ki Mamata jaise log bade ho gye hai,” he said, adding his earlier perception that “Mamata didi” was committed and wanted to work for people was proved wrong.

The Prime Minister once again said that he didn’t have to be an MP to know Kashmir as he has lived and worked in Kashmir in his younger days as a party worker. (PTK)
