Dumping of garbage continues on river jehlem banks in Hajin Bandipora, people suffer

However, the authorities have not been serious to take steps in this direction

BANDIPORA: The locals alleged that on any given day heaps of garbage and other dumping material can be seen littered along embankments of river jehlem in Hajin town area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
The river Jhelum has been turned into a waste dump with people frequently throwing the garbage into it at various places.
Locals told that the shopkeepers and vendors at different places are openly dumping their garbage into the embankments of Jhelum river, exposing government’s tall claims of My Towm My Pride to keep valley clean.

Social Activist Nasir Rasool ‘said” that we are deeply anguished with the treatment met to river Jhelum by polluting it day by day.
He added that same water is used for drinking purposes as well as for washing clothes and others activities.
” polluting it will prove life threatening for both livestock and also to humans of the area” Nasir claimed.
He also appealed general public and government organisations to take cognisance of the matter before it is too late.
Nasir further ‘said” locals and shopkeepers are throw their waste and cow dung on embankments of Jehlum banks which not only attracts stray dogs but foul smell emanating from the garbage .
Nasir Rasool blamed the Municipal committe Hajin for failing to keep the town , Particularly these embankments neet and clean.

Meanwhile contacting to Municipal Committee President Hajin Dr, Irshad Ahmad Wani. He ‘said” that they will run campaign on the Banks of River Jhelum so that the water of Jhelum can be kept clean and clear and also the river Jhelum can be made beautiful so that People who come here will be happy to see the beauty of Jhelum.
He appealed the people not to throw the waste on embankments as we have recently deployed Mc Vehicles and wet dustbins in their door steps and requested them to use them and so that embankments can be keep clean .

also should play their key role in making the river Jhelum beautiful and attractive.
Strict action will be taken against those who are involved in dumping garbage in Jhelum embankment MC president Irshad Ahmad Wani, further ‘said”
