Srinagar: While urging the Governor Satya Pal Malik not to rake up controversial issues till an elected government is in place in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) chief and former minister Hakim Mohammad Yasin today said that demand for granting of divisional status to various regions of the state must be left to the new government.
In a statement issued to KNS, he said, “Creating new divisions in various areas of the state is a long pending demand of people. Like Ladakh, Pir Panjal and Chenab, the Kamraz and Maraz regions of Kashmir also deserve divisional status for better economic and political empowerment of the people.”
“However, Governor administration should not take these decisions in haste as these are political decisions and need to be taken by an elected government. Major policy decisions needed to be considered when an elected government was in place, so that the demands and aspirations of every area was duly considered on its own merit for just decision,” he said.
The PDF chief said best possible solution to this would be to make the erstwhile districts as new divisions. “All these issues can be addressed by the implementation of Justice Sagheer Report. All political parties of the state, including Congress, BJP, NC, PDP, PDF, CPI(M) DPN, NPP were taken into confidence during the preparation of the Justice Sagheer Report. But implementation of that report too should be left to the new government,” Hakim Yasin added.
He said the PDF will oppose any attempt to create disunity or disharmony in the society under the garb of seeking administrative facilities. The former minister cautioned the people against any attempt to create division in the background of the situation as the broader unity of the state and all three regions is to be maintained at all costs, while respecting the aspirations of the various heterogeneities in the state and its regions.
