Locals say repeated assurances from PHE staff have yielded no relief; supply limited to one hour
Srinagar, Oct 10 : Residents of Dewath Wali Pora in Srinagar’s Rainawari have been grappling with a water shortage for more than a week, with regular supply yet to be restored despite repeated assurances from Public Health Engineering (PHE) officials.
Locals told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that water is supplied only for a brief spell between 7 am and 8 am, while taps remain dry throughout the evening, forcing households to manage their daily needs with limited water.
Residents said the disruption followed maintenance work announced by the department on September 27. They said that despite bringing the issue to the attention of the concerned PHE staff, including the local lineman and inspector, the problem remains unresolved.
“We approached the concerned staff and were assured that the matter would be resolved, but nothing has changed. We are still facing the same problem, with water available only for an hour in the morning and no supply in the evening,” local resident Numan Rafiq told KNO.
Residents questioned the delay in restoring an essential service, saying repeated assurances had done little to ease their daily struggle for water.
Another local resident, Shahnaz Aslam, said the prolonged disruption had caused considerable hardship to households. “We have complained multiple times, yet our taps remain dry. How are families supposed to manage their daily needs without water?” she said.
When KNO contacted a senior PHE official, he assured that the matter would be looked into. However, residents said no improvement has been witnessed so far.
The residents have urged the authorities to move beyond assurances and take immediate steps to restore regular water supply to Dewath Wali Pora, saying they should not be left to struggle for an essential necessity—(KNO)
