Downtown Srinagar Narcotics Module Busted, 8 Arrested, Rs 90 Lakh Cash, 1 Kg Gold, Pistol Recovered: SSP Srinagar

Srinagar, Oct 1 : Police on Thursday said it has busted a well-established narcotics module operating from Downtown Srinagar, arresting eight persons and recovering Rs 90 lakh cash, about one kilogram gold, jewellery and a pistol.Addressing a press conference, SSP Srinagar Sandeep Chakravarty, as per GNS said the module was busted by M R Gunj Police with assistance of Punjab Police and raids were conducted in Chandigarh and Ambala besides several locations in Srinagar.Among those arrested is Waseem Zargar, officials said, adding that the accused have different links and connections which are being investigated.During searches, police recovered approximately Rs 90 lakh cash, around one kilogram of gold, gold coins, jewellery and a pistol from lockers and other locations used by the accused for storing illegal items, officials said.Giving details of modus operandi, SSP said the network was bringing illegal drugs from outside the State to Kashmir and it is not a normal case but a well-established network. Raids are also going on at pharmaceutical companies outside J&K, he said.”It is a well established network. There were raids in Chandigarh, Ambala by M R Gunj Police. We are thankful to Punjab Police for their cooperation. There is raid going on at pharmaceutical companies there. We will not spare anyone when it comes to drug abuse,” SSP Srinagar said.Police said further investigation is underway to establish the complete network and identify forward and backward linkages, and more arrests are likely.Full details of press conference will be shared later.(GNS)
