Srinagar: PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said she spoke to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and urged him to expedite the ongoing work at AIIMS Awantipora to ensure that the prestigious healthcare institution is completed without further delay.

Mehbooba said the Union Minister assured her that the project would be completed on time.

“Spoke with Union Health Minister JP Nadda ji and requested him to expedite the ongoing work at AIIMS Awantipora so that it doesn’t get delayed any further. He was kind enough to assure me about its completion well on time,” she said.

Mehbooba said that while the team working on the project was putting in sustained efforts, the need for an operational AIIMS in Kashmir had become increasingly important in view of the healthcare challenges facing Jammu and Kashmir.

“Undoubtedly the team assigned here is toiling day and night but given how healthcare is crumbling across J&K, it is imperative that AIIMS Awantipora is operational soon. It will provide much-needed relief and quality medical services,” she said.

The PDP chief had on Friday visited the AIIMS Awantipora project site along with party legislators to review progress and interact with officials associated with the institution.

AIIMS Awantipora is among the flagship healthcare infrastructure projects in Jammu and Kashmir and is expected to significantly strengthen specialized medical services in the region once operational. [KNT]
