Ganderbal: Two persons were injured after a canter truck plunged into a deep gorge and struck a house near Ganiwan Gund area of Ganderbal district on Monday late evening, officials said.

Officials told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a canter truck bearing registration number JK05L-3499 was on its way to Srinagar from Kargi when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and plunge into a gorge before hitting a nearby house.

Soon after the incident, teams of police and SOG rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The injured occupants were evacuated from the vehicle and taken to the Primary Health Centre Ganiwan for medical assistance.

However, locals alleged that the PHC was found locked at the time of the emergency. Due to the closure of the health facility, the injured were subsequently shifted in a local vehicle to Sub District Hospital Kangan for treatment.

Locals raised serious concerns over the functioning of PHC Ganiwan, stating that the facility lacks adequate staff and infrastructure and routinely remains closed after 4 pm. They alleged that the health centre has become virtually useless, particularly during emergencies.

Officials said the condition of the injured persons is being monitored at SDH Kangan. Meanwhile, police have taken cognizance of the incident.  [KNT]
