Pulwama: Locals in Alliepora village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday caught a thief red-handed while he was attempting to loot a shop in broad daylight. The incident, which drew immediate attention in the bustling locality, ended with the accused being restrained by the locals until police arrived at the scene and formally apprehended him.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir News Trust that the accused had targeted a shop in Alliepora during the afternoon hours, choosing what he assumed was an opportune time. However, alert locals quickly noticed suspicious activity and moved in to prevent the theft. Within minutes, a crowd gathered, and the man was overpowered and held captive while messages were sent to inform police about the unfolding situation.
Police team reached the scene promptly and took the accused into custody, ensuring the situation did not escalate further. The accused was then escorted to the police station for questioning and completion of legal formalities.
A local shopkeeper near the spot said that the timely action of ordinary people prevented what could have been a significant loss for the shop owner. [KNT]
