Baramulla: Locals on Monday detected an old shell in Uri village of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district that subsequently diffused by a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) in coordination with local police.
According to officials, the shell was spotted in Village Sughdar of Uri tehsil. Upon receiving the information, a team from Police Station Uri immediately cordoned off the area and summoned the BDS unit from Baramulla. The squad, equipped with technical expertise, rushed to the site and carried out a controlled defusing operation.
Sources said that unexploded shell appeared to be an old remnant, possibly from past cross-border shelling in the border areas.
After the successful disposal, villagers expressed relief and thanked the police and security personnel for their swift action. [KNT]
